U.S. politics

American governmental affairs

The governmental processes, elections, policy debates, and partisan conflicts of the United States.

The term encompasses everything from presidential campaigns to congressional votes to local ballot measures: I try to avoid discussing U.S. politics at family dinners.

Often used to distinguish American political affairs from those of other nations, or to signal the particular character of American political discourse—its two-party dominance, its constitutional battles, its culture wars.
