Tesla Motors

Palo Alto carmaker

Tesla Motors is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company founded in 2003, named after inventor Nikola Tesla.

The company, led by Elon Musk since 2008, produces electric cars, battery storage systems, and solar panels.

In casual speech, often shortened to just Tesla: I'm thinking about getting a Tesla.

The brand has become nearly synonymous with electric vehicles in American culture, much as Kleenex became synonymous with tissues.
