Staffordshire Hoard
English gold discovery
The Staffordshire Hoard is the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold ever discovered, found in 2009 in a field near Lichfield, England.
The hoard contains over 3,500 items—mostly military fittings, sword pommels, and helmet fragments—dating to the 7th or 8th century.
Its origins and purpose remain debated: The Staffordshire Hoard reshaped understanding of early medieval metalwork.
