Sjögren's

Moisture-attacking immune disorder

Sjögren's is short for Sjögren's syndrome, an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks its own moisture-producing glands, causing dry eyes and dry mouth.

Named for Swedish ophthalmologist Henrik Sjögren, who described it in 1933.

The condition often accompanies other autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus: She was diagnosed with Sjögren's after years of unexplained dryness.
