S.E. Hinton
S.E.
Hinton is the pen name of Susan Eloise Hinton, an American author best known for *The Outsiders* (1967), a novel about teenage gang conflict she wrote while still in high school.
She used initials to obscure her gender, as publishers doubted male readers would accept a book by a woman.
Her work helped establish young adult fiction as a genre.
