Rebel Alliance
Empire's armed opposition
The Rebel Alliance is the resistance movement opposing the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars universe.
Founded by dissidents seeking to restore democratic rule, it serves as the heroic faction across the original film trilogy: Luke joined the Rebel Alliance after the Empire destroyed his home.
The term sometimes extends to any scrappy underdog coalition fighting entrenched power.
