Pontiac GTO
Classic American muscle
The Pontiac GTO was an American muscle car produced from 1964 to 1974, widely credited with launching the muscle car era.
GTO stood for Gran Turismo Omologato, borrowed from Ferrari's racing terminology.
The name became synonymous with raw American power—a big V8 engine in a midsize body.
Pontiac briefly revived the nameplate from 2004 to 2006.
