Peking Man

Chinese cave ancestor

Peking Man is the name given to fossil remains of early humans (*Homo erectus*) discovered near Beijing, China, in the 1920s and 1930s.

The specimens, dating to roughly 750,000 years ago, were among the first evidence that human ancestors lived in East Asia.

The original fossils disappeared during World War II.

Peking is an older romanization of Beijing.
