Pawtucket

Rhode Island city

Pawtucket is a city in Rhode Island, just north of Providence.

It marks a significant site in American industrial history—Slater Mill, built there in 1793, is considered the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.

The name comes from Algonquian, meaning "at the falls," referring to the Blackstone River falls that powered early textile mills.
