PUVA therapy
Psoralen plus light
PUVA therapy is a treatment for skin conditions that combines psoralen, a light-sensitizing drug, with exposure to ultraviolet A light.
The psoralen makes skin cells more responsive to UV radiation, which then slows abnormal cell growth.
It's used primarily for psoriasis, vitiligo, and certain types of eczema: After six weeks of PUVA therapy, her psoriasis patches had faded significantly.
