Oedipus complexes
Freudian mother attachments
Oedipus complexes is the plural of Oedipus complex, the Freudian theory that young children harbor unconscious sexual desire for the opposite-sex parent and rivalry toward the same-sex parent.
Named for the Greek mythological king who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother.
The term appears in psychoanalytic discussions and casual armchair psychology alike: He's got a real Oedipus complex about his mother.
