Mexican wave

Crowd stands sequentially

A Mexican wave is a rippling effect created when successive sections of a stadium crowd stand, raise their arms, and sit again in sequence, producing a wave-like motion that circles the venue.

Called simply "the wave" in American English, it gained the modifier after prominent displays during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The Mexican wave went around the stadium three times.
