Maya calendar

Ancient Tzolkin system

The Maya calendar is the timekeeping system developed by the ancient Maya civilization of Mesoamerica.

It comprises interlocking cycles: a 260-day ritual calendar, a 365-day solar calendar, and the Long Count for tracking longer periods.

The Maya calendar gained popular attention around 2012, when misinterpretations of a Long Count cycle ending sparked doomsday predictions: The Maya calendar doesn't actually predict the end of the world.
