MOT
British vehicle check
MOT is the mandatory annual vehicle inspection in the UK, named for the Ministry of Transport that originally administered it.
A car that passes its MOT is roadworthy; one that fails its MOT needs repairs before legal use.
The term appears in compounds: MOT certificate, MOT test.
Informally, any thorough inspection: I gave the house an MOT before putting it on the market.
