Lady of Guadalupe
Mexican sacred vision
The Lady of Guadalupe, more formally Our Lady of Guadalupe, is the Virgin Mary as she reportedly appeared to an Indigenous Mexican man in 1531.
The image associated with this apparition—a dark-skinned Mary surrounded by rays of light—became Mexico's most powerful religious symbol and remains central to Mexican Catholic identity.
