LD50
Half-die measurement
LD50 is a toxicology measurement: the dose of a substance lethal to 50 percent of a test population, typically lab animals.
It quantifies how poisonous something is—a lower LD50 means greater toxicity: Botulinum toxin has an extremely low LD50.
The metric helps compare dangers across substances but has limitations for predicting human outcomes.
