LAN gaming
Local network play
LAN gaming is playing multiplayer video games over a local area network—computers connected in the same physical space rather than over the internet.
Before reliable broadband, players hauled their PCs to a friend's house or convention center for low-latency competition: We used to have LAN parties every weekend.
The practice persists for tournaments and nostalgia.
