Jewish divorce
Hebrew marital dissolution
A Jewish divorce is a religious dissolution of marriage according to Jewish law (halakha), distinct from civil divorce.
The husband issues a document called a get to his wife, traditionally requiring his consent.
Without a get, a woman remains an agunah—"chained" and unable to remarry within Orthodox Judaism.
Reform and Conservative movements have modified these requirements.
They obtained both a civil divorce and a Jewish divorce.
