Islamic conquest
Muslim military expansion
Islamic conquest refers to the military expansion of Muslim-ruled territories, particularly during the rapid spread of Islam in the 7th and 8th centuries following Muhammad's death.
Arab armies conquered the Persian Empire, much of the Byzantine Empire, North Africa, and the Iberian Peninsula within a century.
The term appears in historical discussions of this era: The Islamic conquest of Spain began in 711.
Later expansions—Ottoman, Mughal—are sometimes included under this heading.
