Internet censorship
Restricted web access
Internet censorship is the suppression or control of what can be accessed, published, or viewed online.
Governments may block websites, filter search results, or restrict social media to control information flow: China's Internet censorship blocks access to Google and Facebook.
Corporations and platforms also practice censorship through content moderation policies.
The term often carries negative connotations, implying illegitimate restriction of free expression, though defenders may call the same practices "content regulation" or "community standards enforcement."
