Howlin Wolf

Chester Burnett's stage name

Howlin' Wolf was Chester Arthur Burnett (1910–1976), an American blues singer whose raw, powerful voice and imposing physical presence made him one of the genre's most influential figures.

His recordings for Chess Records in the 1950s and 60s—Smokestack Lightning, Spoonful, Killing Floor—helped define electric Chicago blues and influenced countless rock musicians.

The stage name evokes his distinctive howling vocal style.
