HALO jump
Stealth military freefall
A HALO jump is a military parachuting technique where personnel exit an aircraft at high altitude and freefall most of the way down before opening their chutes at low altitude.
The acronym stands for High Altitude, Low Opening.
This method minimizes detection by radar and ground observers, allowing covert insertion into hostile territory: The special ops team conducted a HALO jump under cover of darkness.
