Gothic arches
Medieval cathedral curves
Gothic arches are pointed arches characteristic of medieval European architecture, especially cathedrals built from the 12th century onward.
Unlike rounded Roman arches, the pointed form directs weight more efficiently downward, allowing for taller walls and larger windows.
The Gothic arches of Notre-Dame soar above the nave.
The style defines what we call Gothic architecture.
