Gilbert's syndrome

Benign liver quirk

Gilbert's syndrome is a common, harmless liver condition in which the body doesn't properly process bilirubin, a yellowish pigment produced when red blood cells break down.

People with Gilbert's syndrome may experience mild jaundice—a yellowing of the skin or eyes—especially during stress, fasting, or illness, but the condition requires no treatment.

It is inherited and affects roughly 3-7% of the population, often going undiagnosed because symptoms are so mild.
