FEMA trailer
Emergency mobile shelter
A FEMA trailer is a temporary housing unit provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to people displaced by natural disasters.
These manufactured homes became synonymous with Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005, when tens of thousands were distributed across the Gulf Coast.
The term often carries connotations of inadequate government response, prolonged displacement, and the health problems that plagued residents of the formaldehyde-emitting units: Five years later, some families were still living in FEMA trailers.
