Ex Machina
Sudden contrived resolution
Ex machina is Latin for "from the machine," almost always appearing in the phrase deus ex machina—a god from the machine.
It refers to an unexpected power or event that resolves an impossible situation, especially in fiction.
The term comes from ancient Greek theater, where actors playing gods were lowered onto stage by crane.
Now it usually carries criticism: The ending felt like a deus ex machina—the hero's long-lost brother just happens to arrive with an army.
