The Empire Strikes Back is the second Star Wars film released (1980) and fifth in the saga's chronology.
Widely considered the best of the franchise, it introduced Yoda, revealed Darth Vader as Luke's father, and ended on an unresolved cliffhanger—unusual for blockbusters of its era.
The title has become shorthand for a sequel that surpasses its predecessor: The album was her Empire Strikes Back.
