Elder Futhark
Ancient Germanic script
Elder Futhark is the oldest form of the runic alphabet, used by Germanic peoples from roughly the 2nd to 8th centuries.
Its name combines the first six characters: F, U, Þ (th), A, R, K.
The 24 symbols appear on weapons, jewelry, and runestones, often in inscriptions whose meanings remain debated.
The bracteate was inscribed in Elder Futhark.
