El Chapo
Notorious cartel boss
El Chapo is the alias of Joaquín Guzmán, the Mexican drug lord who led the Sinaloa Cartel and became one of the world's most wanted criminals.
The nickname means "Shorty" in Spanish, referring to his height.
His dramatic escapes from maximum-security prisons made him notorious: El Chapo tunneled out of prison twice before his final capture.
He was extradited to the United States and sentenced to life in prison in 2019.
