Eastern United States
Seaboard and inland
The Eastern United States is the region east of the Mississippi River, sometimes defined more narrowly as states along the Atlantic seaboard.
The term contrasts with the West and often carries cultural connotations—older settlements, denser population, established institutions: She moved from California to the Eastern United States for graduate school.
Also called the East or the East Coast, though the latter strictly means coastal states.
