Don Knotts
Don Knotts was an American comic actor best known for playing nervous, high-strung characters.
His signature role was Barney Fife, the bumbling deputy sheriff on *The Andy Griffith Show*, which won him five Emmy Awards.
He later played the eccentric landlord Mr.
Furley on *Three's Company*.
His name evokes a particular style of physical comedy—bug-eyed, jittery, and endearingly incompetent.
