Chota Nagpur Plateau
Eastern Indian highlands
The Chota Nagpur Plateau is a highland region in eastern India, covering much of Jharkhand and parts of neighboring states.
Rich in mineral deposits—coal, iron ore, mica—it became central to Indian industrialization: The steel plants of Jamshedpur sit on the Chota Nagpur Plateau.
The terrain is hilly and forested, home to significant tribal populations.
