Chinaman

Dated Asian term

Chinaman is an old-fashioned and now offensive term for a Chinese man or person of Chinese descent.

The word was standard in the 19th and early 20th centuries but is now considered a slur.

In cricket, a Chinaman is a left-handed bowler's off-break to a right-handed batsman—a technical term that persists despite the ethnic slur.

A Virginia merchant in 1850 might write of trading with Chinamen.
