Chalukya dynasty
Medieval Indian empire
The Chalukya dynasty ruled large portions of southern and central India across several centuries, with three distinct branches flourishing between roughly 543 and 1189 CE.
The Badami Chalukyas established the first empire; later the Eastern and Western Chalukyas continued their legacy.
They were significant patrons of Dravidian architecture, building elaborate rock-cut temples at sites like Badami and Pattadakal.
