Cain and Abel
Genesis's feuding brothers
Cain and Abel are the first two sons of Adam and Eve in the Hebrew Bible.
Cain, a farmer, kills his brother Abel, a shepherd, after God favors Abel's sacrifice over his own—making it the first murder in biblical narrative.
The story has become shorthand for sibling rivalry turned deadly, fratricidal violence, or jealousy with catastrophic consequences: They fought like Cain and Abel over the inheritance.
