Bruin
Los Angeles mascot
A bruin is a bear, particularly a brown bear.
The word comes from Dutch and appears most often in fables and children's stories, where Bruin serves as the bear's proper name.
In American usage, Bruin commonly refers to the UCLA athletic teams and their mascot: The Bruins dominated the first half.
