Banquo

Banquo is a character in Shakespeare's *Macbeth*—a Scottish nobleman and military companion to Macbeth who is murdered after witches prophesy that his descendants will be kings.

His ghost famously appears at a banquet to haunt the guilty Macbeth.

The name sometimes appears in allusions to haunting reminders of past wrongs: The scandal was the Banquo's ghost at every campaign event.
