African descent
Sub-Saharan heritage roots
African descent describes ancestry traceable to the peoples of sub-Saharan Africa.
The phrase appears in formal, legal, or demographic contexts: persons of African descent, communities of African descent.
It encompasses a broad diaspora—including African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, Black Brazilians, and others whose ancestors were brought to the Americas through the slave trade, as well as more recent emigrants from Africa and their descendants.
