16th note
Quick musical duration
A 16th note is a musical note with a duration one-sixteenth that of a whole note.
In standard 4/4 time, sixteen of these notes fill a single measure, making them quick and often used for rapid melodic passages or rhythmic embellishment.
The note is written with a filled oval head, a stem, and two flags (or beams when grouped).
British English calls it a semiquaver.
