zoo vet
Captive wildlife physician
A zoo vet is a veterinarian who specializes in treating animals kept in zoos—from elephants and big cats to reptiles and birds.
The work requires expertise across hundreds of species with vastly different anatomies and needs: The zoo vet sedated the giraffe for a routine checkup.
Also called a zoological veterinarian.
