yawping

Making raucous noise

Yawping is making harsh, strident cries or complaints.

From the verb yawp, which captures both the sound—a rough, squawking noise—and the manner of speaking: loud, coarse, and often self-important.

Walt Whitman famously declared I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world, embracing the word's raw, untamed quality.
