wrynecks
Odd contorting woodpeckers
Wrynecks are small woodpeckers named for their habit of twisting their heads and necks in snakelike contortions when disturbed.
The two species, found in Europe, Africa, and Asia, differ from typical woodpeckers in having soft tail feathers and cryptic brown plumage.
The word also describes a person with a twisted or crooked neck, or the condition itself.
