writing out

Putting words down

Writing out means setting down in full written form, especially expanding abbreviations or numbers into complete words: Write out the amount on the check.

It can also mean composing something completely: She spent the evening writing out her resignation letter.

To write someone out is to remove their character from a story: They wrote him out of the show in season three.
