working girls

Women earning wages

Working girls is a euphemism for prostitutes or sex workers, lending an air of ordinary employment to the profession: The bar was known to attract working girls.

The phrase can also mean simply women who work for a living, though this innocent sense has been largely displaced by the sexual one: a comedy about working girls in Manhattan.
