wise fool
Knowing yet naive
A wise fool is someone whose apparent simplicity or foolishness conceals genuine insight—the court jester who speaks truth to power, the village idiot who sees what the educated miss.
The paradox captures how conventional wisdom can blind while innocence or naivety sometimes perceives clearly: Shakespeare's fools are wise fools, puncturing royal pretension with riddles.
The phrase also describes someone learned in books but lacking practical sense.
