weatherizing
Preparing for winter
Weatherizing is the process of protecting a building against cold, heat, or moisture by adding insulation, sealing gaps, or installing storm windows.
The goal is energy efficiency and comfort: We spent the weekend weatherizing the cabin before winter.
The term applies mainly to homes and appears often in discussions of energy costs and conservation programs.
