waterboard
Simulated drowning torture
Waterboard is an interrogation technique in which water is poured over a cloth covering the face to simulate drowning.
The subject, typically restrained and inclined with head lower than feet, experiences the sensation of suffocating.
Used by the CIA on terrorism suspects after 2001, waterboarding is widely considered torture: The Senate report confirmed detainees were waterboarded.
The word functions as both noun and verb.
