water repellents
Moisture-blocking surface treatments
Water repellents are substances or treatments that cause surfaces to resist water penetration.
Applied to fabrics, wood, leather, or masonry, they make water bead up and roll off rather than soak in: spray-on water repellents for hiking boots.
Unlike waterproofing, which creates a complete barrier, water repellents reduce absorption without making something entirely impervious.
