steel alloy
Hardened metal mixture
A steel alloy is steel combined with other elements—chromium, nickel, manganese, vanadium—to enhance specific properties like strength, hardness, or corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel is a chromium alloy; tool steel contains tungsten or molybdenum.
The term is slightly redundant since all steel is technically an alloy of iron and carbon, but it distinguishes specially formulated steels from plain carbon steel.
