war ministry
Military affairs office
A war ministry is a government department responsible for military affairs and national defense.
The term is now somewhat dated; most countries have renamed such departments—the United States has the Department of Defense, Britain the Ministry of Defence.
The war ministry authorized the deployment of additional troops.
